A Little Update

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 31, 2008 – 3:55 pm

I realise it has been some time since my last post but to be honest not a lot is happening. I am at the mercy of coders once again, two to be precise. One is doing his job well and on time, the other is a week overdue for a $30 script.

As I’ve been kept waiting, my mind has been thinking of new ideas and I’ve invested a few dollars into new domain names. I intend to build another network but that requires a custom coded site too, so back to Rent a Coder for more bids!

I’ll keep you posted in due course. Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Switching Off

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 25, 2008 – 12:59 pm

Patience - in business - is something I do not have a lot of, I never had and I never will. I don’t like waiting, I hate having to wait and I don’t enjoy wasting time. At present I have two coders working on two different projects…and I’m waiting on both finishing.

patience

Everything else is ready and my mind is on overdrive thinking of the launch. I even check Rent a Coder when I’ve not received an e-mail alert just incase they have replied. Quite sad really, but that’s just me.

I’ve been up since 8am this morning, met a client twice (before and after) for Edinburgh Clean, finished a tattoo site for the new owner of the network, commissioned a logo design for one of the new projects, had lunch and wrote this blog post. I’m constantly on the go and find it difficult to switch off.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. My flatmate reminded me I work too hard and need to rest and my girlfriend must be getting sick of my business talk. I don’t think I’ll ever settle until I’m successful and run my business ventures full time.

How do you switch off? Am I just weird?

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

No Time to Sleep

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 22, 2008 – 5:56 am

busy

My last blog post was 6 days ago, which is terrible really considering I’ve generally been posting every two days. Lately I’ve barely had enough time to sleep and as a result, the blog suffered. My apologies, here’s what I’ve been doing…

First off, I completed changing the ad codes for all the tattoo sites so the new owner could start earning. It wasn’t a case of copying and pasting so it took a good few hours. In addition to that I am working on building a piercing network for him which was included in the sale.

My friend Stephen and I started our own cleaning company, Edinburgh Clean. After two nights of flyering properties late into the night, we’re now receiving calls etc which is keeping us busy. It is difficult to get a reliable cleaner in the city and with everyone now in the 9-5 rat race, we’re providing a service that is in demand.

In addition to that, I have outsourced two new projects which I will be launching soon. One is just a small site similar to my name generator Cool Nicknames, the other is a social media application for a specific niche that will require a large chunk of investment. The market is untapped in many ways so fingers crossed it’ll work.

Whilst juggling those 4 things, I’ve been trying to spend time with family and friends. Did I mention I also work 37 hours per week?

…this will either make me or kill me, I hope the latter is never an option!

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Re-Investing

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 15, 2008 – 8:59 pm

After the recent sale of my website network I have some money to re-invest. Bankrolling future operations is now a lot easier for me as I don’t need to wait until pay day to make my next move, I have cash available to input into new projects. Being in complete control is a fantastic relief, and in addition having the money to hire people to do work for you!

investing

Lukily I have a few sites I’ll be churning into sales and adding a little more cash on the pile shortly. I have a few big ideas I’ll be developing over coming months, including offline businesses. Spreading your risks is important and whilst I value the internet as a fantastic place for making money online, I feel putting two much into one domain can be risky.

Speaking of domains, part of my investments will be buying premium names that I can either rent or develop into profitable sites. As the .coms and .co.uk’s are snapped up at rapid rates, I think it would be wise to get a foot in the door and keep a hold of a few valuable names for the future.

I’ll keep you posted on any developments as and when they happen. Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Network Sold

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 12, 2008 – 7:12 pm

First it was for sale, then it was cancelled…now it has been sold. I got the price I asked for and the buyer got the network with a little extra. In addition to my tattoo network, the buyer got my piercing domains - a new network I was going to start - and my services for the next three weeks. This includes building these sites and backlink building.

money

In short, we both got a good deal and I am ready to re-invest into something new. The buyer will soon take responsibility for a network earning $300 - $400 per month with the potential to become the largest tattoo and piercing network online.

I am a large chunk closer to becoming debt free and have the buying power to start multiple new businesses. Keep your eyes peeled for my new ventures. And, don’t worry, I still have investments online and more sites to sell in the future.

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

April Earnings

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 9, 2008 – 4:00 pm

April was a good and bad month for me. Good because I managed to sell a site in 15 minutes and make $525, but bad because my network earnings were down with my main publisher partner, Media Jump. Here’s a breakdown of my income…

  • Site sale: $525
  • Media Jump: $163.22, down from $330.69
  • Value Click Media: $50.19, up from $13.37
  • TTZ Media: $36.45, up from $35.10
  • Text Link Ads: $7.50, same as last month.
  • Total: $782.36, up from $385.17

Media Jump was my biggest loss but my overall searches were up from 11,000 to 17,000 - higlighting they are just not paying as much per click. It is disappointing because I would have broken March’s earnings without the site sale if they had maintained the same pay per click.

Value Click was almost triple because I added two more banners and the network provided over 200,000 impressions in the month’s period. TTZ was up slightly, again due to more visitors, but their downtime over April has caused my earnings to be less than expected.

On a plus note, I doubled my income and can smile when I look back on my achievements.

  • New daily average: $25.23

How did you do last month?

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Hungry for New Media

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 7, 2008 – 8:01 pm

The web is a limitless portal of ever expanding new information and media. Thousands of sites go live daily and millions of domain names are registered each year. A lot are copies, some are unique, and the vast majority are put online to make money.

gossip

I was searching for a new website idea the other day and looked at a few, well known websites with random names and packed with media content (images and videos). These sites were averaging over 500,000 uniques per month and have a team of writers! These sites don’t rank on the 1st page for their chosen keywords yet they receive more visitors than any of the site’s I’ve ever owned. Why?

My belief is that they provide good quality media and information that promotes word of mouth and natural links. Instead of targetting the 1st page of Google, they are targetting mass crowds of visitors hungry for fresh media that can easily be passed and talked about. In coming weeks I’ll be investigating how they do this in an attempt to mimic it and start my own new website.

Watch this space and good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Lack of Domains

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 5, 2008 – 8:43 am

It is rare that I get to live a little bit of my dream and wake up to sunshine, read my e-mails with a mug of coffee and having nothing planned. No 6.30am alarm, no rate race and nothing to be worried about. This is the good life, the life I want, the life I will get.

I’ve been researching more keywords recently in an attempt to expand and dive into new areas. Spreaking to a friend yesterday on msn, I was explaining that now I’m mostly registering .net domain names as all the good .com’s are gone. This is quite a scary fact, especially because I generally build then sell sites. The web is quickly being eaten up by hungry webmasters whoring information sites with good domains in an attempt to have hundreds of high ranking web properties that provide stable revenue.

domain names

As a result, “Purple” becomes “Purrple”, “Flick” becomes “Flickr” and random names are created like “Wazoui”. Owning a good .com is certainly a worthwhile investment, even if it is two or three words (providing it is brandable). I have a few I’ll be renewing and hopefully developing this year.

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Site Sold in 15 Minutes

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on May 1, 2008 – 12:01 am

I sold Graffiti-Letters.com today in a record 15 minutes. The site was a simple information resource about graffiti and ranked 6th in the SERPs. I put the site for sale on Digital Point and contacted a member who has previously purchased from me - he snapped it immediately.

sold sign

The site was earning a minimal amount with Media Jump so I placed Adsense on it for less than 48 hours. From 7pm last night to midnight it made $2.51 and with less than a full day today the earnings had exceeded $5.16!

It was a steal for the buyer and I included 4 free graffiti domain names that could be developed into other information sites to form a network.

My reason for selling was a) I want to invest in a new site and b) I don’t have time to develop another network right now. I got $525 that will help me nicely.

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.
