The last of the 4 L’s

Written by Khalid Al-Khames on January 16, 2008 – 10:58 pm

Although this information may be slightly dated, it is important to recognise a good opportunity when you see one. Recently, all possible combinations of four letter .com domain names have been registered, resulting in webmasters trying to get their hands on a piece of “history” before they become far more valuable than the current asking price ($50 upwards).

If you think about 3 letter .com’s now being sold for, say $5,000 upwards, what will the future hold for 4 letter domains? In a post made by Tyler Cruz recently (successfully internet entrepreneur), he backs the idea of purchasing domains as an investment for the future…

“The best and easiest advice to give, though, would be to invest in domains. While I didn’t have much money back then since I was only working a part-time job, if I knew then what I know now, I could have invested $5,000 into domain names and sold them today for $5-$10 million - no exaggeration on those numbers, either.”

Perhaps it’s time to buy…before it’s too late.

    hey Khalid,

Just had some monetisation thoughts for offbeatink. Have you considered putting the fastclick ads up top. Maybe even a leaderboard size, then replacing the current fastclick banner with adsense. I know you have adsense down the right side, but that is a low click area. I would think some post-level adsense might perform better.

I also did some checking on some of the ad networks I use and looked around for tattoo related stuff. I didn’t find as much as I would’ve liked.
I think you should solicit private advertisers on digital point or site point to help round out your montisation scheme for offbeat. I believe you have enough traffic for this if I’m not mistaken.

I was also thinking that you might want to resurrect some of your old ecommerce sites if you still have them. The names escape me at the moment, but the security headset one in particular. The route I would go is to use blog format with short posts on security headsets that are affiliate products. Then bolster up your sidebars with PPC ads. Essentially a tight niche product blog. I know these work well from personal experience. They do require unique content posts, but it’s not too hard with aff products.

Hope you find this comment useful.

Marc, your back buddy, nice to hear from you! When are you going to setup a blog?!?!?!

Thanks for your long and informative comments once again, you always make me think…in a good way.

I’ve still got EliteKit.com but its up for renewal. Like you said I did try to make a static information page with some related ads but it didn’t work out, there are no decent affiliate programs out there for that nice bar AuctionAds.com and half the time they show unrelated items!

I do alright with the Quick Links from Media Jump. Watch out for newer posts with my earnings etc.

    Hope your stick around,

    Khalid.
